SK's Fernando "fer" Alvarenga had a massive tournament in London, grabbing the ECS S3 Finals MVP award. After the exciting grand final, we managed to hear his thoughts on the award and the playoff matches.
The Brazilians managed to get through two hard playoff opponents, Astralis and FaZe, and lift the trophy in the Wembley SSE Arena. Doing a massive amount of work for SK was Fernando "fer" Alvarenga, who finished the tournament without a single below-average rated map.
In a post-match interview, fer talked about coming back in the final and SK's ranking at the moment.
You changed your in-game nickname from ferGOD to fermoster—and here comes the first MVP in a long time, at least from when coldzera joined the team. How does it feel?
I really don't care about [MVP] titles, when cold joined the team I already knew that cold was going to be the star. But everyone in the team is a monster and I'm really happy that we won this championship since it was the most stacked championship in some time.
Let's touch on the semi-final that was a crazy game in its own way. How did it go from your perspective?
We already knew it was going to be a tough match because all the best teams in the world are here at this tournament but we feel really good now that felps has been in the team for a while and everything is much more fluid.
Moving on to the final, after that long semi-final, and you lose your pick, the first map, what was the atmosphere like then?
Both maps were good for either team and we picked Mirage but it could've been FaZe's pick as well, it's all the same [due to our map pools]. We lost the first map but we knew we could win the next two so we were very confident.
The last map of the final, Train, after having a 13-2 lead and them coming back to 15-14, what was the feeling like inside of the team, how did you get the resilience to make the comeback and win the game?
It felt like the anxiety got to us because we wanted to close the map, everything was going so easy at the start. But after losing some rounds we started adapting, correcting some stuff that we were doing wrong and when it came to the overtime we already knew that we were going to win.
Do you feel like the best team in the world right now? Do you think that you deserve the title?
Absolutely, it feels like we are the best team in the world. And I'll say something more: we never stop being the best team in the world, we were just waiting for the right moment to come back.
